This week we have been doing dance. We got into groups and chose characters from the story of Maui and the Goddess of Fire. We practised our dance and showed what our characters do and feel with movements such as jumping, running and twirling around the room. Its hard remembering all the steps and moves. For the past few weeks we have been learning different types of dances because we are dancing in our assembly. I'm really glad we are doing dance this term.
Cultural sharing day
Last week was Cultural sharing day so we had to bring in something that we have thats from our country that our family comes from, or talk about our ancestors and parents, or we talk about a tradtion in our culture. I decidec to bring in an African doll and a lizard made out of beads and wire. Making things out of wire and beads is an African culture. African people like to be creative and use any pieces of material, like wool and beads, fabric, cly, wire and tin cans to make things like toys or art. Most people there are poor so they make things and sell them at the side of the road. The doll that i brought in is very special to me because when I visited Africa I was a little girl and I loved dolls.
Dance
This term our topic is Creativity through dance and masks and we are learning lots of creative moves. We pretend that we have a personal bubble that we have to touch and move around inside. Then Miss Ellis puts us with a buddy and we have to practice and perform our shapes and sizes on the stage. Today we had to twist our bodies and be symmetrical and then we had to perform on the stage. We did really creative moves and tried not to copy anyone else. When we do our preformance miss Ellis puts on James Brown music.
Poems
what's in the box?
Is it...
A colourful cupcake getting squashed? A lazy lizard sleeping? An fierce lion roaring? A scary dragon eating princess's? An angry alligator biting Captian Hook's hand off? A reckless rhino raging?
WE DON'T KNOW LET'S LOOK!
Art
For art we are painting inside the ocean. We are doing techniques like wet on dry and dry on dry. For example a wet paintbrush on dry paper and a dry paintbrush on wet paper or a wet paintbrush on wet paper which is wet on wet. We are also painting endangered sea animals, here some pictures of them.
EOTC WEEK!
EOTC week was awesome. We went to 4 different places which we'd never go to on a normal school trip.
On Tuesday we went to Tree Tops. That was my favourite trip. I liked Tree Tops because it was really fun and interesting. It was really SCARY on Course 4, because there was a flying fox leading to a big net which you have to grab onto when you jump off the flying fox.
On Thursday we went to the Wave pools. I had a great time there, also my dad came along so he supervised my group. We all went on the hydro slide which was really exciting when the waves were put on. We all grabbed onto the side and it felt like there was an earthquake and we were jumping up and down in the waves.
The visit to the Marae was the first time I have ever been to one. When we walked inside we had to take off our shoes because if we stand on the floor with our shoes on it would be rude because the people at the Marae said it is just like walking on someone.
Orienteering was in the Waiatarua Reserve which is just by my house. We had these maps and had to follow them to find clips which we put a piece of paper and clipped a hole in to show we had been to that spot. My group came first at the end!
EOTC week was amazing! I wish I could do it again.
